Abstract :
The reactions of the novel ferrocenyl ligand: [(η5-C5H5)Fe{(η5-C5H4)CHNCH2CH2OH}] (1) with platinum(II) and palladium(II) salts are described. These reactions have allowed us to isolate and characterize the coordination complexes: [Pt{[(η5-C5H4)CHNCH2CH2OH]Fe(η5-C5H5)}Cl2(dmso)] (2), [Pd{[(η5-C5H4)CHNCH2CH2OH]Fe(η5-C5H5)}2Cl2] (3) and the cyclopalladated derivative: [Pd{[(η5-C5H3)CHNCH2CH2OH]Fe(η5-C5H5)}(μ-Cl)]2 (4). Compound 4 reacts with deuterated pyridine, triphenylphosphine or 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane giving: [Pd{[(η5-C5H3)CHNCH2CH2OH]Fe(η5-C5H5)}Cl(L)] (L=py-d5 (5) or PPh3 (6)) and [Pd{[(η5-C5H3)CHNCH2CH2OH]Fe(η5-C5H5)}(dppe)]Cl (7), which contain a five-membered metallacycle with a σ(PdCsp2,ferrocene) bond. The reactions of 4 with tert-butylisonitrile or the alkynes: RCCR (with R=Et, Ph or CO2Me) are also described and produced: [Pd{[(η5-C5H3)CHNCH2CH2OH]Fe(η5-C5H5)}Cl(CNCMe3)] (8) and the nine-membered palladacycles of general formula: [Pd{[(RCCR)2(η5-C5H3)CHNCH2CH2OH]Fe(η5-C5H5)}Cl(L)] (with R=Et (9), Ph (10) or CO2Me (11)). All the compounds included in this work were characterized by elemental analyses, infrared and NMR spectroscopy. The X-ray crystal structures of 1, 6, 8 and 10 are also reported.
