Synthesis of new organosilicon compounds by CS2: Mercapto-silyl-thiones

A new type of chemistry of carbon disulfide proceeding by way of nucleophilic attack of tris(trimethylsilyl)methyllithium (TsiLi) at carbon of carbon disulfide is reported. The treatment of TsiLi and CS2 with some symmetrical and unsymmetrical benzyl halides has yielded novel multifunctional compounds with SiMe3, SH and Cdouble bond; length as m-dashS groups. The obtained compounds (mercapto-silyl-thiones) have been produced with unusual rearrangement that is apparently the first example of such migration of sulphur to carbon atom. These reactions have high selectivity and the yields are quantitative.
