Abstract :
The discovery of the light initiated reaction of Fe(CO)5 to yield Fe2(CO)9 by Dewar and Jones in 1905 ushered in an era of the use of light to drive chemical reactions. This review seeks to examine selective chapters in this story by examining particularly significant reaction types in the context of their historical development.
