Rational synthesis of trinuclear (WIr2) cluster from the 16-electron half-sandwich complex Cp*Ir[Se2C2(B10H10)]

A trinuclear cluster {Cp*Ir[Se2C2(B10H10)]}2W(CO)2 (3) containing Ir–W bonding was obtained from the reaction of 16-electron complex Cp*Ir[Se2C2(B10H10)] with [W(CO)3(py)3] in the presence of BF3 · OEt2, and its structure has been determined by X-ray crystallography.
