Abstract :
Applying kinetic analysis upon crystallization of metallic glass, a quantitative relation between the critical cooling rate and the onset temperature of crystallization was obtained for glass-forming alloys. Effects of the onset temperature of crystallization, the liquidus temperature and the glass transition temperature on the critical cooling rate were analytically described. Three rules guiding the development of more reliable glass-forming ability criteria are suggested.
