Non-equilibrium thermodynamics of boundary conditions for rarefied gases and related phenomena

The interrelation of the kinetic theory and non-equilibrium thermodynamics is discussed. A procedure for deriving the boundary conditions for slightly rarefied gases is outlined. The entropy productions from the processes associated with the non-uniform gas flow in channels with mobile walls and with the presence of an arbitrary geometric particle in non-uniform fluid are found. Using the entropy productions, the phenomenological equations are obtained. New phenomena predicted on the basis of these equations, and their experimental testing are discussed.
