Abstract
A new method for calculating the free vibration frequencies of a thin circular cylindrical shell is presented, based on Flüggeʹs shell theory equations for orthotropic materials. A general displacement representation is introduced, and a type of coupled polynomial eigenvalue problem is developed in present study. Numerical examples are given for isotropic and orthotropic shells. Comparison with that from classical dynamic approach is studied for frequency of an isotropic shell.
