Abstract :
A continuous percolation model is proposed to describe the temperature and volume fraction dependence of the shear modulus of temperature induced forming (TIF) alumina aqueous suspensions. The concept of “effective volume fraction of aggregates” is proposed. The volume fraction gelation threshold (φg), the characteristic temperature (T0) and the exponent (s) can be derived from the rheological measurements. Model calculations are in good agreement with the measurement data. The estimation of the strength of the wet gelled alumina suspensions with variation in temperature can be realized using this model.
