Abstract
A new iron immobilized (3-mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysilane (MPS) self-assembled layer has been developed over a gold electrode surface by a combined sol–gel and self-assembly techniques. The sensor exhibited excellent sensing characteristics for the catalytic reduction as well as oxidation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) at the potentials of +0.1 and +0.4 V, respectively, with good sensitivity, selectivity and reproducibility. The possible coordination of iron with the functional thiol group of the MPS favored highly stable and leakage free sensing surface. The proposed system is a promising mean for the construction of a variety of new chemical and biosensors.
