Abstract :
The Coriolis test has developed into a useful way of evaluating the slurry erosion behaviour of materials. Wear mapping has revealed some sensitivity to test conditions so both the tester and test procedures continue to evolve. Experiments with very dilute model slurries comprising a ‘pinch’ of glass beads, or a single glass bead, gave information on bead contact depth and normal component of impingement velocities which confirmed previous theoretical predictions that erodent particles interact with the specimen in a series of low angle impacts. The superior discriminating ability of the Coriolis slurry erosion test is due to the lower interaction intensity of erodent particles with target surfaces compared to that in slurry jet testing.
