Abstract :
This study examines the wear behavior of a cladded layer on a medium-carbon steel surface, where the gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) method was used to enhance wear resistance. The effects of some aspects of the cladding process on cladded layer wear resistance were assessed using the Taguchi parameter design. The experimental results reveal that the key influences on wear resistance performance are cladding powders composition, welding current and traveling speed. Furthermore, advanced analyses such as scanning electron microscopy, electron probe X-ray microanalysis and electron spectroscopy for chemical anaysis indicate that mechanisms for strengthening the cladded layer include martensite phase transformation, precipitation and dispersion hardening.
