Abstract :
An implementation of the Estler face motion reversal technique [CIRP Annals 45 (2) (1996) 483] is presented that allows for the separation of the axial and tilt error motions of an axis of rotation from the circular flatness of a measured part. A single indicator method is used that has practical applications in testing spindle-type roundness measuring instruments. The method is presented along with experimental results that demonstrate the possibility of nanometer level accuracy.
