Abstract :
A new acetone sensor is developed by using a lead foil electrode in sodium tartrate solutions. The factors affecting the sensing characteristics, such as: applied potential, concentration of electrolyte, agitation rate and temperature were explored. The optimal operating conditions for the Pb foil electrode are 0.1 M sodium tartrate, 155 rpm agitation rate, 50 °C sensing temperature and applied potential in the range from −2.21 to −2.32 V (versus Ag/AgCl). The results reveal that the Pb foil electrode has a good linear relationship between response current and acetone concentration in the range from 50 to 250 ppm and this sensor has a fast response time of 18 s.
