Abstract
A voltammetric method is proposed to detect hydrogen peroxide in teeth whitening gels. First the conductive properties of the gels are studied and discussed in absence and presence of an electrolyte. Current–potential curves recorded at a gold disc electrode show that hydrogen peroxide can be oxidized and reduced, especially in the oxidation the electrode surface condition plays an important role in the kinetics. The detection of hydrogen peroxide is done by calibration plots between, respectively, the reductive peak current and charge exchanged in the reduction peak as a function of hydrogen peroxide concentration. Also the long-term stability is investigated, which gave promising results.
