Abstract :
An ultra-compact (around 10 μm) index of refraction photonic sensor based on the idea of Bragg structure applied to rib waveguides is proposed. These devices are significantly smaller compared to current state-of-the-art lab-on-a-chip biosensors and can be fabricated in a massively parallel scheme on a single chip integrated with a micro-fluidic channel. Numerical design optimization using Beam Propagation Method (BPM) for a SiNx/SiO2 material platform suggests viability of these devices as next generation biosensors.
