Abstract :
Undesirable physiological changes and also performance disorders which limit the elderly and increase their dependence on others can decrease the quality of life (QoL). This study intends to survey the effect of core stability exercise training on QoL of the elderly men. The research population is all men living in Shahrood’s nursing home. The samples were purposefully selected among the elderly people who are not affiliated with beds and mentally able to work. Before beginning exercise programs, QoL was assessed using the 36-item questionnaire (SF36). The supervised training program lasted for 12 weeks, 45 to 60 minutes per day, 5 days a week. Each exercise session consisted of 10 to 15 minutes to warm up, about 30 to 35 minutes core stability training and 5 minutes to cool down. To compare the data before and after the exercise program paired t test was used. Levels of statistical significance were set at p ? 0.05. All QoL dimensions improved after 12-weeek core exercise training, except role-emotional dimension that did not show any significant changes. Thus regarding the nature of core stability exercise training, it is recommended that attendants in nursing homes learn the appropriate basics of this kind of exercise, and have them as a part of elderly people daily activities.
