Abstract
The construction, performance, and applications of nitrate-selective electrode based on complex of bis(2-hydroxyacetophenone)ethylenediimine vanadyl (IV) as carrier, in plasticized poly(vinylchloride) (PVC) matrix are described. The electrode exhibited linear response with Nernstian slope of −58.5±1.0 mV per decade within the concentration range 5.0×10−6 to 1.0 M nitrate ion. The limit of detection as determined from the intersection of the extrapolated linear segments of the calibration graph, was 1.0×10−6 M. The response time of electrode was <25 s over the entire concentration range. This electrode could be used for at least 3 months without a considerable divergence in their potential. The electrode exhibited good selectivities for nitrate respect other anions. The electrode is suitable for use in real samples.
