The influence of John Tukeyʹs work in robust methods for chemometrics and environmetrics

John Tukeyʹs impact on statistics, and on science in general, is broad and lasting. This article discusses some of these contributions, with a special emphasis on those that led to the development of robust methods and data exploration used in chemical and environmental sciences. In view of todayʹs emphasis on data mining techniques, the recollection of Tukeyʹs influence is especially timely.
