Resins in bituminous coal

The fact that “coal” is a conglomerate the various ingredients of which behave differently when heated, is generally recognised. It is realised also that the proportions in which the ingredients are present in a particular variety of coal may determine the value of that coal for a particular purpose. This article deals with true resins, as distinct from the so-called “resinic compounds,” in bituminous coal.
