Abstract :
A mesoporous Pt/SO–ZrO2 catalyst was prepared by combining sol–gel and surfactant-assisted templating methods. Its pore structure was analyzed by an adsorption technique, and its catalytic behavior in the CH4/CO2 reforming reaction was investigated using a high-pressure flow reactor at 0.1–1.0 MPa and 803 K. The Pt/SO–ZrO2 catalyst’s surface consists of many mesopores; these yielded a high specific surface area (ca. 130 m2/g) and a high Pt dispersion, which was three times that of Pt/ZrO2 prepared by a conventional method. H2 formation activity over the Pt/SO–ZrO2 catalyst at 0.1–1.0 MPa was higher than that over Pt/ZrO2, and the H2/CO ratio also increased. At a gas hourly space velocity of 60,000 h−1 at 1.0 MPa, the catalytic stability was improved owing to high resistance to coking, and the H2 space–time yield reached 93 mmol/h gcat.
