Abstract :
Fuel and ethylene time histories, overall fuel decomposition rates, and ethylene yields were measured during the high-temperature (990–1520 K) pyrolysis of n-dodecane, methylcyclohexane, and 2,2,4,4,6,8,8-heptamethylnonane in a heated high-pressure shock tube. Fuel measurements were made using IR HeNe laser absorption at 3.39 μm and ethylene measurements were made using CO2 gas laser absorption near 10.5 μm. Initial fuel mole fractions ranged from 0.1% to 0.4% fuel in argon and pressures from 17 to 23 atm. Data provided here will enable the formulation of a fuel surrogate with pyrolytic kinetic properties (product species and overall fuel decomposition rates) similar to RP-fuels.
