Analysis of an industrial piping installation under buckling propagation

This paper presents some results of an extensive investigation on the failure of the pressurized double-piping system (pipe-in-pipe system) being one of the main structural elements of the thermo-conditioning installation in the sewage treatment plant. The investigation included the survey of the failed piping, checking of the design and manufacturing against the standards of various types, theoretical analysis employing the results of works carried out on buckling propagation. As an useful and highly informative element of the investigation three tests have been designed to expose the phenomena, which lead to an explanation of the cause of the failure under consideration. They also verified the results of the theoretical analysis performed.
