Vortex-induced vibration of a water tank tower with small aspect ratio

In a wind tunnel model test, the vortex-induced vibration of a water tank tower has been investigated. The tests have been executed for the free standing tower as well as for the tower with adjacent buildings. It could be verified that vortex excitation occurs at the tank even at small aspect ratio of L/d=1, where a significant vortex resonance response of the tower has been observed. For application to a full-scale tower, frequency and damping measurements have been executed at the prototype tower.
