Abstract :
The present investigation concerns the across-wind vertical oscillations that may occur during the construction stage of a concrete box girder bridge built by the balanced cantilevered method. Wind tunnel investigations comprise pressure tap measurements as well as static and aero-elastic tests. Based on these experiments a procedure for the prediction of dynamic response has been established, under the assumption that the fluctuating across-wind load may be ascribed primarily to vortex shedding, and described within the theory developed by Vickery and Basu (J. Wind Eng. Ind. Aerodyn. 12 (1) (1983) 49).
