Abstract
The influence of microstructural control on the properties of some TiAl-based alloys and of a B2 ordered alloy of the type Ti25V15Cr2-6Al are discussed in terms of the importance of the details of their ordered structures on the properties. The ductility of the B2 alloy, which is strongly influenced by the Al-content and thus by the degree of order, is considered. In the case of TiAl alloys the mechanisms of slip transfer from gamma, a tetragonal ordered phase, to alpha 2 a hexagonal ordered phase, is discussed. The totally unexpected nature of antiphase boundaries found in massively transformed alpha in TiAl alloys is also briefly outlined.
