Abstract
Two C15 NbCr2 Laves intermetallic compounds are deformed at high temperatures by compression test and their deformation microstructures are observed by transmission electron microscopy. The two C15 NbCr2 intermetallic compounds are deformable at temperatures above 1470 K. The plastic deformation at high temperatures is accomplished by the activation of dislocations with the Burgers vector of 1/2<011>, which are split into a pair of partials with the Burgers vectors of 1/6<112> (i.e. the Shockley partials) bounded by widely extending stacking fault. At temperatures above the brittle-ductile transition temperature, dynamic recrystallization was observed to occur in the region in the equiaxed grain form. Also, the stacking fault energy in the C15 NbCr2 intermetallic compounds is evaluated by measuring the radius curvature extending at the node of the 1/2<011> dislocations.
