Abstract
Internal friction in Fe–Al based alloys is revisited and discussed on the basis of nearly all the results ever published in the literature supplemented by the authors’ current results. Several internal friction peaks are found in the temperature and frequency dependent internal friction spectra with activation energies ranging from 0.3 to 3.0 eV. The main features of these peaks and the mechanisms of corresponding relaxation processes are discussed. Hysteretic damping is also considered with respect to magnetic domains walls and dislocation mobility in ordered and disordered Fe-Al alloys.
