Abstract :
An elementary derivation of the evolution equations is given for N vortices in a period cell of a rectangular doubly periodic vortex lattice. By exploiting a logarithmic conformal mapping from a rectangular period cell to an annulus, the evolution equations for the N -vortex problem are derived.
