Let P and Q be two complex matrices satisfying P 2 = P and Q 2 = Q . For a , b nonzero complex numbers such that a P + b Q is diagonalizable, we relate the spectrum of a P + b Q to the spectra of P − Q , P Q , P Q P and P Q − Q P .
