The Four-compartment Energy Level Diagram for Seed Germination

The four-compartment energy level diagram for the isothermal germination processes of turnip and lettuce seeds is analyzed. The fitting of a minimum chi-square to the autocatalytic reaction that describes isothermal seed germination yields two parameters that are interpreted as the initial concentrations of the first stage and last stage of seed germination. These two initial concentrations are used to determine the thermodynamic quantities, activation energies, work, and heat involved in the isothermal germination process.
