A Characterization of 0-epi Maps with a Degree

A map of the form I−f with a strictly condensing operator f is 0-epi if and only if it has nonzero degree on a component of its domain of definition. This proves a conjecture of the second author in M. Väth, J. Math. Anal. Appl.257 (2001), 223–237.
