Abstract
Electrically excitable cells, e.g., neurons, cardiac cells, and pancreatic β-cells, must function properly to maintain health. In this paper, we describe some of the research on excitable cells that we have carried out over the past 15 years. In particular, we describe some electrical phenomena observed in these cells and how we are trying to understand the mechanisms causing them by using modeling techniques, analysis, numerical computations, and computer technology.
