Abstract
In this paper, expanded mixed finite element methods for the initial-boundary-value problem of purely longitudinal motion equation of a homogeneous bar are proposed and analyzed. Optimal error estimates for the approximations of displacement in L 2 norm and stress in H 1 norm are obtained.
