Subspace structure of Lorentz spaces and strictly singular operators

We study subspaces of Lorentz L p , q spaces and provide an easy-to-check characterization of strictly singular operators defined on these spaces. As an application we obtain stability under duality for the class of strictly singular operators on L p , q spaces, extending a theorem of L. Weis for operators on L p spaces.
