The discrete degree of metric spaces and the Lipschitz-continuity of distance transforms

A quantitative characteristic, named the discrete degree, of a metric space is introduced. In terms of such a characteristic, relations between the Lipschitz-continuity of distance transforms and the properties of the metrics on spaces are discussed.
