Role of a procedure of environment impact assessment (EIA) in elaborating the integrated project of managing the Barents Sea coastal zones

This paper examines the problems of practically applying the ‘sustainable development’ concept using the example of developing the coastal Barents Sea zones. Some approaches to Environment Impact Assessment procedures are outlined together with their role in integrated management of coastal regions. The authors assess conflict among various resource users and provide guidelines on applying the scientific analysis and prediction of ecological-economic situations.
