Assessment and Mitigation of the Effects of Land Use in a Lake Basin (Lake Vico in Central Italy)

Environmental impact assessment of some human activities at the Lake Vico basin on the water body is considered in this work. The correlation between land use and potential lake alteration is characterized using an environmental index, the lake tropic state, represented by the mean phosphorus concentration. Consequently, the environmental carrying capacity, lake state evaluation, mitigative actions and possible development scenarios are defined in a holistic approach. This approach allows the correct allocation of mitigative intervention, without drastic reduction of activities.
