Abstract :
After recalling the main characteristics of fallow land, the authors show how they may be characterized on satellite remote-sensing data. Examples chosen in different French regions illustrate their identification and mapping on SPOT and TM data. A simulation of vegetation succession of fallow land in Normandy is presented.
