Area-minimizing tori in 3-manifolds

If M is a closed, orientable, irreducible, Riemannian 3-manifold that admits π1-injective embeddings of the torus, then the area-minimizing π1-injective immersions of the torus into M are embeddings or double-cover embedded Klein bottles, unless M is one of the three examples given.
