On the ring structure of K∗ for discrete groups

Let Γ be a discrete group of finite virtual cohomological dimension. Using a rational splitting for G-equivariant K-theory (when G is a finite group) due to T. tom Dieck, we find a rational splitting for the classifying space of such groups.
