Generating ordered topological spaces from LOTS

Any totally ordered set equipped with a topology possessing a subbase consisting wholly of end sets can be constructed from LOTS by repeatedly taking subspaces, quotient spaces and inverse limits. We prove that none of these three operations can be omitted from the construction.
