Chaotic group actions on manifolds

We construct chaotic actions of certain finitely generated infinite abelian groups on even-dimensional spheres, and of finite index subgroups of SLn(Z) on tori. We also study chaotic group actions via compactly supported homeomorphisms on open manifolds.
