Abstract :
Scattering of electromagnetic plane waves by a conducting cylinder in uniform rotation has been discussed in the past in terms of Galilean rotations. So Maxwellʹs equations in the rotating frame do not retain their inertial form. We use here a relativistic description of rotations that restores the full covariance of electromagnetism. We discuss a high-frequency scattered field for a small angular velocity and we show that the distortion of the scattering pattern generated by rotation disappears in this case for a perfectly conducting cylinder.
