Abstract :
The study was conducted to determine serum biochemical reactions of adult rabbit’s bucks fed graded levels of laguncularia racemosa in the humid tropics. Twenty four (24) adult New Zealand White rabbit bucks weighing averagely 2.3kg, procured from Agricultural Development Project (ADP) Abuja were used in an experiment that lasted for 84 days. The experimental rabbits were housed in the rabbitry Section of the Teaching and Research Farm of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt. Complete Randomized Design (CRD) was employed in this study and the bucks were randomly allocated into four dietary treatment groups (A, B, C, and D) of six bucks per group and further replicated thrice (two rabbits per replicate). From the results, there were no significant differences (p > .0.05) in the observed mean values of the total protein, globulin and creatinine between the control and the experimental groups. Significant differences (p < .0.5) were observed in the mean values of albumin between the control and treated groups, the control group recorded the highest mean value of 4.33g/dl ? 0.07 than the treated groups B- 3.83 ? 0.07, C- 3.90 and D- 3.97 ? 0.07 g/dl respectively. There was no significant effects (P < 0.05) observed on the mean values of creatinine. Significant differences (P < 0.05) were observed in the mean values of Urea. Treatment group D recorded the highest followed by group C and the control group A. Treatment group B recorded the least mean value of 23.00?1.12 It was therefore concluded that laguncularia racemosa when incorporated into the feed, impacts significantly on the serum biochemistry profile of rabbit bucks.
