Abstract :
The aim of the study was to measure the weight performance of Sahelian goats in the region of Guera in the Centre Chad. The weightings were carried out on young kids born in farms followed over four years. The frequency of the visits was twice a month from 0 to 2 months and monthly thereafter. The daily average gain at 30 days was 68 g in males and 63 g in females. These weights are lower than the observations made in other Sahelian zones of Chad. The weight development of kids according to the sex has a generally linear taken as a whole. Significant differences (P < 0.05) of average weights between males and females were observed only at the 210th and 240th days after parturition, despite a slightly better growth in males. Observed values will allow to appreciate the impact of improvement actions on goat productivity in this area.
