Abstract :
The purpose of this study is devising a rather comprehensive set of semantic roles in order to meet the requirements in the fields of natural language processing and computational linguistics. There are a lot of different inventories regarding semantic (thematic or theta) roles proposed by different experts with different perspectives. One such an inventory has been proposed by Brinton and Brinton (2010). Their listing includes 16 semantic roles which seems to be more efficient compared to the ones playing fewer roles. However, in order for the roles to be manipulated more precisely and accurately, they were modified and promoted. Furthermore, some semantic roles were added to fulfill the requirements of the task. The result is an inventory of 23 semantic roles which have been ultimately used in an electronic lexical database for Persian language known as Persian WordNet or FarsNet. These roles have been ultimately used in the Persian WordNet known as FarsNet.
