Abstract :
Non-formal education is considered a supplementary approach to the formal system which bridges the educational gaps in developing countries. The present study evaluated the current status of teachers working in non-formal basic education community schools to estimate their in-service training needs. It focused on the analysis of in-service training of non-formal basic education community school teachers. The population of the study consisted of all the non-formal basic education community school teachers in central Punjab, Pakistan. The researchers used questionnaire (validated through pilot study) as research tool for quantitative data collection. Data were collected from 200 basic education community school teachers of five districts of central Punjab, Pakistan. Data were analyzed in terms of percentage and frequencies. The main findings of the study revealed that i) a wide range of multidimensional topics were tried by trainers during short term in-service training, ii) teacher training centers were poorly equipped with modern teaching aids. It was also identified that teachers needed guidance and training to improve knowledge in the subjects like English, Mathematics and Science. Need of further training in the areas of teaching methods, multi-grade teaching, preparation and use of AV aids, examination process, preparation of Non-formal education is considered a supplementary approach to the formal system which bridges the educational gaps in developing countries.
