Abstract
The study examines the effect of cooperative learning in improving reading and writing achievement and academic self esteem of students of large classes. Selfesteem is how people feel about themselves and how much they like themselves, especially academically after using cooperative learning method. One hundred and twenty eight students at Government Comprehensive High School of English subject participated in the study and a pre-test, post-test control group experimental design was used. At the end of experiment, participants took Johnson & Johnson self-esteem scale containing sixteen items to know the self-esteem of the students. TTest was used to know the difference between means. The results indicated a statistically significant difference between variables achievement in reading and writing and academic self-esteem. The researcher discusses pedagogical implications of cooperative learning and suggests recommendations.
