Abstract
The aim of this work is to present numerical models describing the deterioration process of masonry subjected to an aggressive environment, in order to predict time taken to reach a given damage level. Indeed, this is an important issue in planning strategies for maintenance and repair of the existing buildings. The study of stone masonry decay was carried out applying two different approaches. The first one is a probabilistic approach suggested by the great randomness involved in the masonry decay phenomenon, due to environmental attacks. The second one is a deterministic approach based on a delay differential model. The main point is that both probabilistic and deterministic results are successful and definitively agree. This is greatly relevant for the effectiveness of the proposed models.
