Application of Multimedia in the Iranian Contemporary Art

The current study aims at reviewing the course of multimedia and its effectiveness on the Iranian contemporary art. This study is a result of reviewing written texts done in descriptive-analytical method, through which in addition to defining the contemporary art, multimedia and multimedia art is addressed with an implication of Iranian contemporary art. Data collection method here is of library type. Multimedia status and application in the Iranian contemporary art has been analyzed in qualitative method, which determines its position in the new trend of art. Studies show that the new art in Iran has been formed on a peculiar bedrock, and paved the way for formation and acceptance of new artistic format through the new atmosphere created following cultural and social changes. With emergence of new means of mass communication such as satellite and internet, artists and critics have been provided with a tremendous wave of information and knowledge of novel thoughts. Nevertheless, academic ideas do not fulfill the needs of the new generation who seeks new experiences. Whatever said about new art is in fact an aesthetic translation of the new media. In fact, with development of digital facilities and evolution of time and space concepts within intra-user networks, the new art has found a fresh possibility and this change from quantitative to qualitative aspects have determined new art features. In a general conclusion, the new atmosphere coming into existence in the light of cultural and social changes for artistic creativity is perceivable in emergence of a new generation of artists, which has been consolidated in the era of the Islamic Republic, in the light of essential interests of this regime.
